i am legend review

Rhonda and I went to the local movie megaplex and saw I am Legend. Apparently it's been quite a while since we've seen a movie in the theater, because we were surprised at the $9 tickets. Add in a beverage and we shelled out $22. ouch. I'm glad we ate before we went, otherwise a popcorn and maybe something else and it's into the $30's.

But back to why I'm posting, the movie. I thought the movie was very good - except for the ending. Smith's performance I think was exceptional. He made me sympathize with him, the loneliness. The scene were he lost same was really kinda wrenching. When he goes frantically trying to rescue Sam - the shaking, the fear. Very realistic. Good suspension of disbelief.

The CG was very impressive except of the animal scenes. I'm no computer graphics expert, but it sure seemed like they cheaped out w/ the animal modeling. Which is too bad, because the work they did on the scenery was fascinating.

But that damned ending. <sigh> It was really a let-down. It was as if they were thinking "Let's wrap this up into a nice tidy little package that the American public will accept". I've never read the book, though after hearing bits and pieces about it I intend to. It sounds as if the book had a far better ending then the movie. And the book seems to have had fewer "holes" in the story line then the movie has. The main being the movie title itself. I thought the movie didn't explain what I understand to be the true meaning of the "legend" from the book.

If you're big on good endings, don't see the movie. But otherwise I'd recommend it. If you have a big screen TV and good sound system you could probably get away with waiting for the DVD to come out.
